Reflection Day 1

Tan Kian Shiong
  • What did you do today?
    • Briefly describe your day’s activities
Today we built a water tower made up of balsa wood that is supposed to withstand as heavy as the water tower can withstand. We were also given extra sticks when our water tower can withstand 20 newton of weight. After seeing some teams struggling, the facilitators decided to give every teams extra sticks if their water towers could withstand 75 newton of weights.
  • What did you learn today?
    • Discuss any learning points from today’s activities
I learnt that the water tower that we built are surprisingly quite study even though it was built from thin wood. Most of the water towers can withstand 300 newtons.I also learnt the different types of water towers.
  • How do you feel about today’s activities?
    • Describe how the project has affected your understanding of the discipline and how it may be applied elsewhere
I feel that today's project has helped me understand how a water tower works and how we should distribute the weight of the water to a larger surface area so that the the water tower will not collapse easily. If i grow to be an architecture engineer,I would know the concept of distributing the weight of the object to different area so that the object will not fall easily.
    • Share your insights for the day
I learnt the importance of a water tower and the different types of water tower available.

What did you do today?

-We were given balsa wooden sticks and was a tasked to build a stable water tower that is able to hold the most amount of weight. If were were able to withstand 2kg we were given an extra stick to improve our water tower.

What did you learn today?
-I learn more about equilibrium to balance and make the water tower we build to be more stable.Which type of wood to support the more important parts of the structure.I also learned about the different type of water tower used to support weight.

How do you feel about today’s activities?

-I felt that today experience was meaningful,it showed me more about how an actual prototype of a water tower works how each supporting materials helps to hold up the weight

  • What did you do today?
    • Briefly describe your day’s activities
Today we experimented and tried to built the water tower using the wooden sticks provided
  • What did you learn today?
I learnt that the best water tower isnt always the tallest or the widest. It depends on the tower structure and how it is built.
  • How do you feel about today’s activities?
I think that it is quite fun an d engaging and teamwork is important in building the tower as if we had different ideas Jonas is cool

  • What did you do today?
    • Today I built the water tower, and went through the judging process.
  • What did you learn today?
    • I learnt that even if the water tower is tall or short, as long as it is sturdy it will be fine. I also learnt how to make a water tower.
  • How do you feel about today’s activities?
    • I learn how to discipline myself and I should listen to my other group members and do what they say instead of trying to cut the random sticks and holding the whole group back.
